Computerized Manufacturing and Machining (CMM)

Last Updated: 3/13/2019 3:12 AM

Have you ever wondered how things are made? Every product manufactured, from toothbrushes to car parts, requires the skills of a highly trained machine tool technician.

  • Learn precision machining and computer numerical control (CNC) skills

  • Practice problem-solving skills that enhance your performance in every area of life

  • Master the lathe, milling machine, drill press, power saw, and bench grinder

  • Earn your OSHA 10 and National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification while in high school

Almost everything you own was made by machinists or with tools made by machinists. Precision machining students plan and make precision finished parts from raw material using lathes, mills, and CNC (computer numerical control) machines.

In this class you will have the opportunity to learn basic precision machining and CNC skills. You will also practice the kind of problem solving skills that enhance your performance in every area of life. This can be the beginning of a great career or a vital stepping-stone toward many college degree careers.

The Machine Tool Program introduces the student to machining fundamentals. The student begins by using basic machine tools including the lathe, milling machine, drill press, power saw and bench grinder.  Machine terminology, theory, math, part layout and bench work using common measuring tools is included.
